The stability under load at elevated temperatures of insulating materials used for the manufacture of electric cables is an important property as it determines the suitability of the material for use as insulation.
The Hot Deformation Testeris designed to determine the resistance of PVC insulation and sheaths to pressure at elevated temperatures. The apparatus consists of a support on which the test specimen is kept and a stainless steel blade of a specified thickness with an arrangement to apply the specified load on the cable under test through the blade. A set of weights is provided to give the specified load on the test specimen.
